Life on the Refrigerator Door

SHORT
POWERFUL
INTERESTING

Ever wondered how a relationship could be, between a mother and daughter? Life on the Refrigerator Door is an eye opening book, it’s short and powerful. Claire and her mother expressed their emotions in notes, instead of talking to each other. This books message is, to make time for those who are in your life as time itself is running out . . . This novel explores on what being a ‘good mother’ or ‘good daughter’ really means. Life on the Refrigerator Door is life changing; it makes you wonder that the people you love lives could be taken away at any moment. We need to start making time for those we love and care about.

Claire starts off as an unappreciated girl to her mother but later on she transformes into a girl who is caring and nice. She was a character that stood out to me as and one that everyone could relate to. She would communicate with her mum by writing notes and sticking them on the fridge this way of communication affected Claire as she had so much going on in her life and needed a mother to talk to. Without ever seeing her mum she always seemed lonely and sad as her mum was too busy with work so Claire relies on her best friend Emma. I feel like I related to Claire as everyone has lost a person they love to an illness.

Life on the Refrigerator Door setting is at Claire and her mum’s house. The book is set at the house as they have to leave the refrigerated notes there for each other to read and to write back. “I am Claire and I talk to my mum in notes”. The message that this book is putting out is to spend time with everyone in your life and spend as much time as you get as the clock is always ticking. When Claire and her mum find out about the illness they start to spend as much time together, every note they write to one another always has the word love you in it which shows how they love each other.
This book is a great book to read as it is little in writing but always keeps you interested while reading it. I love this book because it has a meaning that is life changing to the way that we each look at our life. The book teachers us to live life, enjoy every moment with the people that we love in our life. Life on the Refrigerator Door interested me in how you could spend your life talking your way in notes.
