Life on the refrigerator door by Alice Kuipers

How would you feel if the only way you could communicate with your mum was through notes left on the refrigerator door?

The story is about the relationship with a hard working mother and teenager growing up but only to communicate through notes left on the refrigerator door. The story tells us about how we are constantly living our lives rushing and not making time for the ones we love. Important things can be said in such few words only if you have enough time to say it.

One of the main characters is a young teenager called Clare; she is very caring and loving although she and her mother have their ups and downs they are always there to look out for one another. In the story she grows and matures as a person as she learns to cope without her mother being by her side every step of the way.

The story is set in our time and raises a very relevant topic that is being faced by women all around the world. The message of the story is that you should always make the effort to show your love for the people you love and to cherish the moment because you never know what will happen in the future.

I think the story is very suitable for the time we are living in right now and I highly recommend it for young teenagers or for any age. It may be a simple read but it is a tear jerker that makes us feel what is really important.
