City of Bones By Cassandra Clare

Imagine thinking all your life you were just an ordinary girl…stuck in the circumstance of never knowing your father. You believe the lies about your past and your family, only to find it all crumbling as the truth unfolds.

But how do you tell a truth from another lie?

Clary Fray the main character in City of Bones believes that she lives an ordinary life like anyone, but an event occurs that questions her idea of ordinary forever.

At the beginning of the novel Simon, Clary’s best friend goes with her to a nightclub where she witnesses a boy’s murder but before she can report it, the boy’s body disappeared. Clary confronts the murderers but Simon can’t see them, no one else can see them but Clary. As the book unfolds Clary notices that the murderous people from the nightclub keep on appearing where ever she goes. One day Clary decides to approach one of them, his name is Jace and he called himself, a Shadowhunter. Clary is suddenly dragged into a part of a different New York, a magical one.

Clary has green eyes and curly red hair; she is sarcastic and stubborn but also very kind. She is defensive and supportive of her friends and family and often puts herself into danger to protect them. Clary is an artist and you often find that throughout the book she carries her notepad with her.  I believe that Clary is a young girl who is very determined and protective of her family and friends. She is a strong-willed character who always tries to get her way and never backs down from a problem or event.

The book is set in Brooklyn, New York City. The theme or message in the novel is about self-discovery and how Clary discovers her past and the people involved. This story is a Fantasy novel in third person.

This book did not disappoint. I have now read it more times than I can remember and each time I read it I discover something new about the story and the characters. The humour and fantasy in the novel keeps you engaged and wanting the book to go on forever.

This book is a must read for any one, it’s one of those books that make you stay up late all night reading in to the early hours of the morning just so you can finish it and then want to read the next one.

  2. City of Bones is a great book. The novel captivated me from the first sentence and kept me hooked until the end. It's the best book I've read recently and Clary is a great main character, unlike some... *cough cough* Bella Swan *cough cough* The book's various twists made me anxious to find out what happened.
