If you
have, The Recruit by Robert Muchamore
is a novel that will surely get you excited. This is the first of the books in
the CHERUB series and it’s one of those
books that you can’t put down.
In the novel we see a boy James who has just
been expelled from his school and before he could tell his mother, she died. James’ step-dad didn’t like him so he was sent to an orphanage and started
at a new school. From there, James ended up at CHERUB, a place where children
are trained to become secret agents. During Basic Training, James gets paired
up with a girl named Kerry. They help each other get through training which is
harder than it sounds. Day after day of being cold, wearing damp clothes, hard
lessons and running the assault course. After Basic Training, James’ first mission becomes life threatening. After
he sticks his head in a box containing anthrax bacteria, he ends up in
hospital. Will he survive?
James is a twelve year old with blonde hair
and a mischievous attitude which is always leading him into trouble. He is the
main character and one of the toughest kids in year seven. His mother was
commonly insulted but that didn’t suit James, so anyone who said something about her would get a
punch. But will James go too far when his class mate continuously insults his
mother?
This story is set in the 2000’s in England and is in the third person. It
starts set in a school in London but the CHERUB campus is at an unknown
location so that nobody can spill the beans about where it is. The dialogue isn’t formal so that the audience is able to
relate to the content easier.
I would definitely recommend this book to
anyone who loves a good mystery story about secret agents. As soon as I
finished reading the last page I rushed to the library to borrow out the next
one and I’m sure you will
too!
Your blog has made me intrigued as to what James goes through when becoming a secret agent. I am now very curious as to what happens.
