Life on the refrigerator door by Alice Kuipers

Leaving messages on the refrigerator door is their main way for them to communicate.

A mother and her daughter, Claire barely gets a chance to see each other because of work, school and lost time. This causes them to leave each other messages on their refrigerator door. They have become closer when Claire's mum visits the doctor and Claire is worried about her mum.

Claire is a teenager, getting used to everything and even with a new boyfriend that her mum is worried about. She doesn’t have time to see her mum when she isn’t at the hospital working. Her social life is busy, she is always out with her friends or boyfriend, leaving little time with her mum. This causes them to make time for them to talk and become closer.

This book is a great book for teenagers and mums. I liked how the story is short and specifically in notes between them about their situations. The note gave me a understanding on how it could feel like to be Claire. It’s a very emotional and meaningful story to read… even though it is just notes between the two.

  1. This sounds like an inspiring great book. I love the way you have described in depth about the mother-daughter relationship.
