Insurgent by Veronica Roth

‘Fighting for survival in a shattered world…The truth is her only hope.’

Although, the truth reveals something about the structure of their society and all of the factions that no one saw coming. In Veronica Roth’s Insurgent, a twist so huge occurs that it has every reader on the edge of their chairs, waiting for the next book in the trilogy.

A frequent character in this book is Four, the protagonist’s boyfriend. Four is described as a handsome, muscular 18 year old. He is well known in the faction for the brave, Dauntless, for his fearlessness, strength and his skills. Four also has a kind heart and a comforting nature making him the ideal boyfriend. As the story progresses, Veronica ventures deeper into the story of four and why he is called four. Four, or later revealed as Tobias, has always been uncertain of their society. Turns out that he was right to be when the world around him crumbles.

This unique story is set in the technologically advanced future. Their area is bordered by fences yet no one knows why until the secret is revealed towards the end of the fantasy book. There are many themes throughout this novel such as strengthening relationships, risking lives on dangerous missions and the shattering government. The book is written in first person from the view of a troubled dauntless girl, Tris. All of this makes the story fresh and exciting for all readers.

When I read this book I could not put it down. The urge to discover more about the odd government captivated me. Along with the brewing romances, thrilling adventures and constant peaks in the novel. This is my favourite book ever. It beats Harry Potter and the Hunger Games, your heart pounds whilst waiting in anticipation for the next event. Insurgent is a book that I recommend to everyone and enjoy reading over and over.

  3. Loved this book, really wish Four was real. he reminds me of Peeta and though I do not agree with you about Divergent series being better than Harry Potter or the Hunger Games, I love it just as much and it is now one of my favorite books. Can't wait for the next one to be released!
