Keep Your Hair On by Elizabeth Vercoe

Can she keep her secret?

How would you cope with losing your hair, tackling chemo and on top of all that having to keep your secret  from the boy you kissed last week?

Well 16 year old teenager Jess who's never done anything wrong, has found out that she now has lymphatic cancer. There is a chance of cure using chemotherapy once a month for six months. however, after Jess' first treatment her hair started to fall out and has made her feel like crap. Although that isn't the only thing on her mind. Last week she kissed a boy called Dylan who she has had a crush on for over a month.

One of Jess' best friends is Sara. She is very funny and has stuck by Jess no matter what. To Sara it didn't matter what others thought of Jess as she went through many changes. She is a great friend to Jess, as her positive attitude always kept Jess in good spirits and helped her through each day.

As the book takes you on Jess' journey you learn not to let an illness take control, but to be in control. An illness doesn't only effect the person with it, but also the people around them. Friends and family are only their for support and to do all they can to help.

This inspiring, humorous and sad novel is one I could read again and again. It gives you an insight into what someone with cancer has to endure and the effect it has. It teaches you to treat every day like your last, because you never know when your time will be up.

  2. i personally thought this book was not very good, because of the ending. i felt like when i was reading it, it wasnt very intense. and the story line made me what it to be intense, like with the cancer and everything, but i just think the ending should have been more sad or something. but job good :)
