Imagine if you never spoke to your mum
and barely ever saw her? What if you were constantly rushing around so much that
you didn’t have time to spend with your mum? Imagine you only left notes on the
refrigerator door? Well this is how Claire and her mother live their
lives.
Life on the refrigerator door by
Alice Kuipers is a very moving book because I wouldn’t like to have that sort
of relationship with my mum; I would prefer to talk face to face rather than
leaving notes for each other to read in passing. It is about a teenaged girl Claire
and her mother, who barely ever see each other because they are busy doing
their own things and they only communicate through notes. Claire lives with her mother, who you
discover is dying from cancer, and you get to see how the relationship changes
between them in the time they have left. The book is unique because it isn’t
written like most others in a story format. The author has just printed the
notes that Claire and her mother wrote to each other.
This was one of the most interesting
books I have read because it was written in a really unusual way. It is the
type of book that is addictive and hard to put down. I do recommend this book to people from the
age of 10-15. Life on the refrigerator
door is an enjoyable but sad book to read and I would read it again.
I found it interesting too especially because it was written in a unique style.
